PUMPKIN AND WINTER SQUASH 5-14 s/g

Pumpkin and Winter Squash are both long keeping cucurbits that are locally referred to as Pumpkins. There is no difference in culture or use. Constant watering and heavy feeding are required for good crops. Sow October to December (cold): September to January (temp): July to March (trop). Sow into warm soil, in groups of 3 or 4 seeds, with 1 to 1.5 metres between clumps. Thin to the strongest.

1823: Bush Table King

Small dark green ribbed “Acorn” fruit on a small space saving plant. Keeps well. Packets only.

COMPETITION TYPE:

1853: Dills Atlantic Giant (new!)

The huge orange fruit may grow to 300 kg under ideal conditions. Purely for fun or show, our strain comes from selected prize winning Canadian pumpkins. Vines vigorous. Growing hints included. Packets only.

LARGE VINE TYPES:

1859: Blue Hubbard

A blue/grey skinn4ed Hubbard. Solid fruit with dry orange flesh weigh up to 9 kg. Keeps well.

1847: Golden Hubbard

Smaller than either the blue or green varieties. Skin a lovely gold colour. Dry sweet flesh. Packets only.

1828: Gramma

Best warm climate variety for pies, scones etc. Flesh deep orange. Packets only.

1843: Green Hubbard

Solid dark green fruit to 18 kg. Deep orange dry flesh. Excellent keeper. Packets only.

1849: Jarrahdale (W.A. Grey)

Excellent storing, handling and eating cultivar with grey skin and deep orange flesh. Good market cultivar with good sized fruit.

1852: Potkin Hybrid

Beautiful tasty fruit can be eaten immature when it tastes like a mixture of potato and pumpkin, or when mature as normal. Excellent keeper with hard dark green skin. Must be sown with another cultivar to ensure good fruit set.

1841: Queensland Blue

Popular and highly regarded, this cultivar has maintained its popularity for over 100 years. Our strain has excellent flavour and storage features.

1825: Red Hubbard

Small (20 cm) rounded bright red/orange fruit with excellent taste and keeping qualities. Packets only.

1832: Sweet Grey Hybrid

Medium sized fruit (30 to 40 cm.), on vigorous vines. Skin light grey with deep orange flesh. Prolific, tasty and reliable.

1840: Turks Turban

Hard skinned bright orange fruit to 25 cm with a prominent button. Attractively marked with stripes of white and green. Keeps well, excellent taste and highly ornamental.

MEDIUM SIZED VINES:

1831: Baby Blue

Fruit rounded with dry deep orange flesh. Skin blue/grey and around 15 cm. across. Keeps well. Packets only.

1838: Butternut Hercules

A large thick necked butternut that crops well and withstands some adverse weather. Keeps quite well.

1826: Butternut Waltham

A high quality Butternut strain. Smaller than Hercules. Ideal for both gardener and the Commercial grower.

1837: Ebisu Delica Hybrid

Small mottled green fruit (around 2 kg.) with very dry deep orange flesh. Highly regarded by the Japanese, this cultivar is absolutely number 1 for taste.

1856: Jap

Exceptionally dry and fine flavoured. Soft skinned, this mottled yellow and green medium size pumpkin is rapidly gaining popularity. Not suited to cool areas. Sometimes called Kent.
